Belly Button Book by Sandra Boynton – Book Review

Belly Button Book by Sandra BoyntonArya has already read many books by Sandra Boynton.

The front cover of Belly Button Book by Sandra Boynton shows a cute hippo peeking out from a circular cutout on the first interior page.

Arya liked playing with the cutout as soon as she saw the book.

The front cover cutout was the only textured element throughout the book. Arya spend most of the time playing with the hole in the cover as we read through the text.

The silly plot consists of a group of hippos talking about their belly buttons. The hippos love their belly buttons and show off their bright pink belly buttons throughout the book. Pictures of the hippos show their pink belly buttons contrasting against their white bodies.

Arya liked most of the hippo pictures toward the beginning of the book, but she got distracted toward the end of the text. She ended up playing with the cutout on the cover while we read the second-half of the book.

With odd rhymes spread across multiple pages, Belly Button Book is meant for adults to read to their children. As with other Sandra Boynton books the focus of the text is on a humorous story rather than imparting any particular lesson. But the cute pictures and funny story will entertain children (and some adults) of all ages.

Belly Button Book is ideal for toddlers who have learned to identify their body parts. Older children who can read by themselves will also like the simply text and delayed rhymes split across pages. Young babies would likely prefer books with brighter colors and more contrast within pictures.

Belly Button Book costs (including shipping) under $7 new and under $4 used from Amazon.
