My Favorite Baby Shower Game

My Favorite Baby Shower GameOur friends played a lot of different games during my wife’s baby shower. One game stood out.

My favorite baby shower game is called “pin the sperm on the egg.” It’s a baby shower version of pin the tail on the donkey with theme that makes it more fun for adults. The game takes only an hour to prepare and a few dollars to create.

Pin the sperm on the egg requires about one hour of construction. Many families will already have all the required materials around the house:

  1. One large (24 x 36) sheet of construction paper. Alternatively, use eight sheets of standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper taped together.
  2. Colored markers or crayons.
  3. Two-to-three feet of string
  4. A color printer.
  5. Roll of Tape

Start by drawing a two-dimensional outline of the female reproductive system. The ideal drawing would have five visible components: vagina, cervix, uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes.

Next, print a single profile picture of the mom-to-be to create an “egg” and many pictures of the dad-to-be to create “sperm”. Tape small pieces of string to the back of the sperm to give them tails

Finally, use a non-permanent adhesive (painter’s tape works great, but scotch tape is fine too) to tape the “egg” to the appropriate place in a fallopian tub. Place tape onto the “sperm” and leave them aside or taped to the wall.

My Favorite Baby Shower Game - PinningThe game is played just like pin the tail on the donkey. Players take turns holding one sperm a few feet away from the board.

Blindfolded, players spin around several times, then try to pin the sperm on the egg. The player who pins the sperm closest to the egg wins!

Generous hosts can give a prize to the winner. Pin the sperm on the egg is the most fun when other guests are taking pictures throughout the game.

Since my wife had a co-ed baby shower we had both men and women spinning around with a sperm in their hands. While at first it was a little odd to watch everyone holding a “sperm” (which was a picture of me), the game became more fun as more people played.

My wife’s male classmate won the game and received a chocolate bar as a prize. We didn’t use blindfolds so I’m a bit suspicious of everyone’s accuracy. I would strongly recommend blindfolds to make the game more fun and more fair in the future.

Although we played many other baby shower games, everyone agreed that pin the sperm on the egg was the best baby shower game.
