Peter Rabbit Sleepy Time by Beatrix Potter – Book Review

Peter Rabbit Sleepy Time by Beatrix PotterI’m always on the lookout for books that might help Arya go to sleep.

Peter Rabbit Sleepy Time by Beatrix Potter was not helpful in putting my baby to bed, but she did like the book for its lift-the-flap feature.

Unlike other lift-the-flap books, Peter Rabbit Sleepy Time has a unique flap-within-a-flap design that makes the flaps even more interesting for young children.

Peter Rabbit Sleepy Time shows different characters from the Peter Rabbit series as they go to sleep. Short, rhyming text on each page is accompanied by a full page illustration in soft colors.

With easy vocabulary and a single sentence per page, Sleepy Time is ideal for young readers to read by themselves. Every page has two sentences which both end in a straight-forward rhyme. Parents will also enjoy reading the book to little children since the short length and rhyme make it more interesting that most board books.

Full-scale illustrations are colorful with interesting elements scattered across the page. But the best feature of the book is the double flap design. After lifting the first, large flap, kids will find a second, much smaller flap underneath. The first flap reveals a sleeping character. The second flap acts as a blanket to cover the character.

Arya liked the two flaps, but since the second flap is so small it was hard for her to lift the smaller flap by herself. Toddlers who are familiar with traditional lift-the-flap books will be delighted by the presence of a second flap on each page.

Peter Rabbit Sleepy Time costs (including shipping) under $8 new and under $4 used from Amazon.
